#NoSalamiInMiami Lives On:
Sergio's has won over South Florida once again! The semifinal for Tampa's fifth annual City2City Cuban Sandwich Festival took place March 6 at Sergio's Doral location. Sergio's mixed it up this year by adding croqueta's to their famous Cuban sandwich, earning them #1 Non-Traditional Cuban Sandwich in South Florida!
"We loved mixing it up this year at the 2nd Annual South Florida Cuban Sandwich Smackdown," Sergio's Restaurant CEO Carlos Gazitua said. "Adding croqueta's to our authentic Cuban sandwich was natural – Miami created the Croqueta Preparada after all."
Sergio's advancement in the competition means they will represent South Florida at the fifth annual Cuban Sandwich Festival in Tampa, March 20-22. The restaurant will compete at the City2City Smackdown taking place Sunday, March 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Park in Historic Ybor City located at 1800 E. 8th Street, Tampa, FL.
Followers of the Cuban Sandwich Festival may recall Sergio's feud with Tampa last year with the #NoSalamiInMiami hashtag; this year the Cuban restaurant franchise challenges Tampa again with #CroquetasvsSalami. Sergio's believes if you're going to put something on a Cuban sandwich, it better be a croqueta.
These aren't just any croqueta's – they're among the top three croqueta's in Miami according to Miami New Times.
"Our goal is to show Tampa that Miami knows what tastes better on a Cuban sandwich and we'll compete any day," Gazitua said. "We want to hear what foodies have to say about #CroquetasvsSalami."
